Interpreting ATIS and METAR wind information

When the ATIS says wind is 270/15, does that mean the wind is coming FROM 270 degrees or going TO 270 degrees? And are those magnetic or true headings?
Wind is always reported as the direction FROM which it blows. So 270/15 means wind from the west at 15 knots. In a METAR, wind direction is given in degrees true. On the ATIS, it depends on the country — in Australia, ATIS winds are given in degrees magnetic for the convenience of pilots on approach. Always be aware of which reference is being used so you correctly assess the crosswind component.
